On Marianenplatz in Berlin-Kreuzberg, Germany
29.07.2005 - 04.09.2005
In July'05 we (Roger, Relax, Ringo + me) take part in the Jazzstylecorner project called CITY OF NAMES, with archictecting and constructing a small subway + tracks. The Berlin based CBS graffiti crew helped us out while building the main station, called "Rosenthaler Platz". This innercity subway line, the CITY OF NAMES north-south connection between "CAF Watchtower"/"Graffitimuseum" and "CBS Chapel"/"Stundenhotel", was one of the main attractions and a big childs-amusement.
Idea:
Writing is unimaginable without a public metropolitan system. Subway trains are owning their special function of transporting graffiti art throuh the urban space. This is the specific impulse in painting subways. A graffiti city like CITY OF NAMES was unthinkable without a Subway for us.
Technical notes:
Train:
- dimensions: 1,70 m heigt, 3,80 m total length

- cars strongly coupled with 2 metall pipes
-exterior walls + roof made out of wood and corrugated iron

Tracks:
- 30 m total length

In the time of 30.09. - 06.10.2005 the train was part in the CITY OF NAMES show on the art fair "2. Berliner Kunstsalon".
City of Names:
According to a concept by Zasd/Jazzstylecorner, within the timeframe of 3 weeks a group about more than 60 writer and streetartists from 9 different nations constructed the "City of Names" on Mariannenplatz in Berlin/Kreuzberg. A gaudy favela with a footprint less than 1000 m2 made out of wood, scrap, trash and paint, fully equipped with a pond, an
oratory, a watchtower, a subway with 2 stations, a museum, the bus number 126 with bus stop,a post office, city gates, streets, an
hotel, a dream tent, a wellnesscenter, electricity and und light, the "urban jürgen square" and an asian 24 hours security guard.
Open from 29.7. till 4.9.2005, City of Names got converted into a super children's playground. It was one of the main features of the streetart exhibition Backjumps - The Live Issue#2.
City of Names arose in collaboration with Backjumps - The Live Issue#2 and Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien.
