1000 Fotos - ein Keller
Groupshow together with Roger within the framework of BACKJUMPS the live issue # 2; Berlin, Germany in august 2005.
I presented ca. 30 handprinted colour photoraphs (40x60) + 80 digital prints (10x15 - 18x27), roger build a small - scale modell of a train depot out of carton.
STAK (NUSIGN Magazin) about "1000 Fotos - ein Keller":
"Nusign was present during the exhibition organized in Berlin in August 2005 by Roger and Richard Schwarz at the Station Park gallery, for the occasion of Backjumps, the live issue #2. The idea behind the show was an amusing one, dividing it into three distinct parts, each one referring to graffiti on trains. Without a doubt, the discipline represented here is that of hardcore graffiti, which is certainly the most discredited by the general and public institions. The installation, put together in a rather playful manner, wanted to be a testimony of this discipline. A small report of this devious art form... Each one carried out only one proposal, but together, the two artists thougt it better to invite various activists of the European graffiti scene to take part in the project and to support their initiative, by the means of documents, in the form of film or slide shows. Each evening, during the time of the event. Station Park became an experimental cinema and a place of debate within the event.
Roger had fun reproducing a small-scale model of a train yard and the station, which precedes it. Five small action figures are represented there: as many stereotypes of the ways in which people approach graffiti action in Europe. Each charcter tends to express himself differently within the setting of the action scenes: whether they are painting or spotting locations. Each scene was described in a short text which explains the manner of proceeding acoording to country's of origin of the writer: for days, the German wandes in every yard seekin the possibility of painting a multicoloured panel (in a lapse of time of forty minutes) whereas the Spanish privileges a short, spontaneous actions (five minutes), and as a group: the Iberian writers prefer to paint a whole car in the station when the train is parked there. For the artists it reflected above all his train of thoughts on the experiences he had during his various voyages through Europe.
Richard Schwarz, on the other hand, was presenting a whole lot of photographs, installed on supports mixing wood and metal. Each image, photographed by the artist himself, consisted of potraits of writers in front of their painitng, on circulating trains, but also of actions in tunnels or in the tracks. Whilst the graffiti artist tries to paint a train, whilst he is trying to finish his piece, and whilst he is thinking of how he is going to escape going to escape without getting caught, he takes his snapshots, like many action testimonies. Therefor, each picture , which was presented, was taken in a spontaneous way and in dangerous situations of illegal painting.
More than just another graffiti exhibition, "1000 Fotos - ein Keller" is a document, which puts the spotlight on the darker sides of writing. An artistic reality, which must be taken account of today."
